Have you ever wondered where the New York accent came from? I found out that the New York accent is closely related to rhotic accents of British English dialects, like Scottish English, Irish English, Mid Ulster English, and rhotic accents of England.
Artists have been drawn into the city by opportunity, as the city government funds the arts with a larger budget than the National Endowment for the Arts.
Being a music lover I found out that New York is the home of home of hip hop, punk rock, and the Beat Generation. My favorite of these music genres would have to be Punk Rock. I found out that Punk Rock started in the ’60’s. It was used to describe garage musicians with no musical or vocal instruction, and often limited skill. Such bands like the Stooges http://punkmusic.about.com/od/stooges/p/Stooges.htm and MC5 http://punkmusic.about.com/od/mc5/p/mc5.htm . They were raw, crude and very often political. Concerts, although often violent, were opening the eyes of the music world. The Velvet Underground http://classicrock.about.com/od/artistsoz/ig/velvet-underground/velvetunderground93c.htm managed by Andy Warhol produced music bordered by noise.
New York is a Melting Pot of so many different cultures.
